What about "The Shard"?

Standing 309.7 metres (1,016 ft) high, the Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, the fourth-tallest building in Europe.
The Shard's construction began in March 2009; it was topped out on 30 March 2012 and inaugurated on 6 July 2012.

Who designed it?

It was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano .

Description of the architecture

Renzo Piano, the project's architect, designed the Shard as a spire-like sculpture emerging from the River Thames. He was inspired by the railway lines next to the site, the London spires depicted by the 18th-century Venetian painter Canaletto, and the masts of sailing ships. Piano's design met criticism from English Heritage, who claimed the building would be "a shard of glass through the heart of historic London", giving the building its name, the Shard. Piano considered the slender, spire-like form of the tower a positive addition to the London skyline, recalling the church steeples featured in historic engravings of the city, and believed that its presence would be far more delicate than opponents of the project alleged. He proposed a sophisticated use of glazing, with expressive façades of angled glass panes intended to reflect sunlight and the sky above, so that the appearance of the building will change according to the weather and seasons.

Thank you JM Reyes for your interesting comments about RP Master, having seen growing this building day after day I was indirectly involved in its construction, even with regard to Brexit. In fact, in a recent article published on The Guardian Lord Rogers and leading UK architects call for clarity on EU nationals . In an open letter, published in the Guardian, they say Brexit will have ?deeply negative consequences? for architecture if practices in the UK cannot continue to employ EU citizens. ?We ask that the government immediately clarifies this situation, otherwise we will not only lose our place in Europe but we will lose our dignity in the process,? says the letter signed by Lord Rogers, designer of international landmarks including Paris?s Pompidou Centre with RP and the Lloyds building in London.......Theresa May has repeatedly said she wishes to guarantee the rights of EU citizens; however, she has said she cannot seal a deal until reciprocal arrangements are in place for the 1.2 million Britons in Europe.......

All this is a climate of total confusion, I just hope that the UK Government can fix this soon for the good of architecture and all of us professionals EU Migrants or better "Expatriates".

Yours pictures looks so fine from Thames Banks Matteo. As you know, always like me architecture from RP Master. Just now he have towers at Sidney, NYC, and Berlin, but no one so expressionist like this ?
The Shard, the splinter to the sky ?. May be better the arrow through the sky ?.or perhaps the peak . Is like a big bird growing from ground that began to fly in a few minutes ?.? a bird ? a craft ? ? is so estrange RP always so technique, orthogonal and sober, but some times ?: so metaphoric. Why he chose this times this kind of language ? ? In Berlin we found the expressionism explain at Postdamer Plazt near another historic buildings in this way, but here ? ?.what going on next Thames Banks ? :
London EYE from Price, Tate from H&DM, O2 from Rogers+partners ?.: always fellows and opponents fighting for the Glory ? this time RPBW got more high that Rogers+ Partners from opposite shore. Is this action building ? or a estrange dancing where anyone wont jump more that another neighbours? ?.
Certainly nobody knows, but Art, Culture, and Money always travelling joint, and in the middle appears BREXIT, what is going on next Thames Banks? One Italian architect build most high tower in front The City, and Foster Associates build most high tower at Frankfurt main . Why brexit came to broke this amazing and dreaming travel ?
While, your rights and italians eyes capture edges an reflects of this stand peak in the middle of morning clouds. But, what can we see from top of peak ? the end of Thames? The Sea? The UE shore? Where is the real edges in this long point view ? . Tween was down, Burj al Arab is stand up, what could be next step in this unexpected World? ?.While, your fine and dramatic pictures lets us dream. Thank you for your shots, and your dreaming invitation.
